The day has finally arrived! I am at the airport waiting to board my flight. As usual, I arrived way too early so I am killing time before my flight. There were a few thunder storms in the area and some flights were cancelled tonight but so far my flight is still expected to leave on time. My parents did the honor of dropping me off at the airport. They have both travelled a lot and have had many life experiences so I usually follow their advice, (even if I won't admit it).
My parents' travel advice:
Mom: "Pack a toothbrush and a bathing suit in your carry-on". God forbid your checked luggage gets lost, you will at least have clean teeth and swimwear. This is most pertinent when flying to a beach destination, but is still very relevant for other trips (bathing suits can double as clean underwear). I have amended my Mom's carry-on essentials with one other item- a book. How can I resist, I'm a librarian. I can't think of a worse thing than being stuck somewhere without a book. Luckily, my awesome boyfriend gave me a Kindle for my birthday so I can carry all of the books that I want on one small device! That alone has saved me 10 lb. worth of luggage.
Dad: "Have a few drinks and sleep through the flight". No explanation is needed for this advice. I've had my two glasses of wine and now I'm ready to hop on the plane and follow step two of this advice: fall asleep in Boston, wake up in London!
So now I am sitting in the terminal, drinking $4 bottled water and listening to a random fellow passenger yodel- he is quite good. Next stop- London!
