Tower of London

Today we visited the Tower of London. Our group leader told us we were going on a “Beefeater Tour” so I was THRILLED because I thought we were going to tour the gin factory. I was wrong. Beefeater is a nickname for Yeoman Warders, a type of guard that works at the Tower.

Beefeaters

The Tower of London is a popular tourist spot, and its history is very eerie, but not everyone realizes that the Tower of London is considered one of the most haunted locations in London. Among the Tower’s famous ghosts are:

  • The two ‘Princes in the Tower’- two young nephews of King Richard III who mysteriously disappeared from the Tower. Their bodies were found many years later- foul play is suspected.
  •  The ghost of St. Thomas a Becket who has been haunting the Tower since the 13th century.
  •  The “White Lady” who is presumed to be Lady Jane Grey or Ann Boleyn
  • Henry IV who is known to make an appearance on May 21st each year- the anniversary of his death.

Our photography focus for the day was “a splash of color” so I played around with highlighting the bright blue doors inside the Tower grounds.

Next, we visited Borough Market which is a giant covered market where local vendors sell everything from cheese, to charcuterie, tea, pastries, meat pies, produce, and olive oil. Sarah, Jen, and I had a blast tasting free samples of everything we could get our hands on. I also bought Sangria from a stand which I was allowed to drink walking around outside, I was thrilled. It made up for the lack of gin.

Tonight we are going to see Wicked!
